At Digitale Woche Dortmund #diwodo, I attended the session "Agent-Based Process Automation: Development Paths." Mario Micudaj and Moritz Arends presented how they approach the topic with clients. One central message: AI should be used as purposefully, modularly and incrementally as possible.
Because not every task needs an AI agent. Often, classic automation already does the job. Non-deterministic AI approaches come with additional requirements. Explainability, testability, monitoring and auditability all have to be ensured. And that creates effort and cost.
Especially in longer process chains, it can therefore make sense to automate individual steps in a targeted way and use AI only where it delivers real added value.
