I'm currently sharing a Notion page with two friends, with whom I'm on a joint learning journey about personal finance.
Along the way, some really fascinating insights about Notion have come up:
- Too many cooks spoil the broth. Here too it turns out: a clear structure as a starting point really helps. The initial "just try things out for yourselves" led to confusion — in our heads and on the page.
- Every beginning is hard — well, more or less. One of us isn't an IT enthusiast and is struggling through it with real effort. Notion's endless possibilities and its own lack of clear structure make it fairly hard for her to get in.
- Some features keep tripping people up. Somehow we keep hitting a point where something is easy for me but not for the others. My guess: I already have Notion "in my blood" to the point where I no longer stumble over it. All the more interesting to watch the others' click behavior.
- The other two don't yet share my enthusiasm for certain features. For example, I built a fund calculator in an HTML block and created a project plan with a display I find really cool. The other two are impressed, but so far haven't dared try those features themselves.
We'll see whether they end up loving or hating Notion. To be continued …
